Zara seemed to be making designer perfume dupes for years now. Zara also landed major deals with big perfumers to design some of their perfume collections. I just happened to discover it all this year. I also noticed that I wasn’t the only one not knowing about this. A lot of people are not aware of this perfume development Zara made because when I asked my co-workers for example about the Zara x Jo Malone perfumes. No one knew who Jo Malone was and no one knew about the collaboration. I really thought everyone knew about Jo Malone, but I guess I was wrong.
Who is Jo Malone?
If you happened to read about Jo Malone for the first time on this blog, I’ll briefly explain who she is. Joanne Lesley Malone is a British perfumer who is the founder of Jo Malone London. The brand Jo Malone London creates perfumes, candles, bath, body, and room scents products. In 1999 Estee Lauder bought Jo Malone London. That’s when Joanne Lesley Malone created another brand called Jo Loves in 2011 under which she creates fragrances inspired by her memories.
Zara x Jo Malone Perfumes Emotions Collection
Two years ago Zara did a collaboration with Jo Malone. The collaboration resulted in the launch of a perfume collection named the Zara Emotions Collection. The collection contains eight unisex fragrances, bath & body products, and candles.
According to Jo Malone, each fragrance tells a story because she created the perfumes through a certain memory she has. Each perfume has its own personality and it brings Jo Malone back a specific memory.
The fragrances come in different sizes (4ml, 10 ml, 15 ml, 40ml, 90ml) for reasonable prices from €5,95 up to €100,-. There is also an option to buy the full collection in a discovery set where you can choose between the 8 x 4 ml set of the 8 x 40 ml set. I went for the first option because I wanted to try the fragrances out first before getting a full-size bottle.

What memories do these perfumes bring to me?
The memory that came to me when I smelled the collection is a memory of my grandmother. I remember that I used to sneak into my grandma’s drawer as a child to put on her make-up and perfumes. That drawer filled with make-up and perfumes had this specific smell to it each time I opened it. I guess that smell came from grandma spilling some of her perfumes in that drawer and the perfumes soaked into the wood of the drawer which gave it a specific smell. These perfumes bring me right back to that moment.
The fragrances in this collection all have this cologne-like mature smell to me. Some smell fresher than the other but that ‘mature’ cologne smell is there, like a red thread through the collection. Some of the fragrances (Amalfi Sunray, Bohemian Bluebells) also remind me of a slightly lighter version of Pompea, Florida Water, and 4711 cologne.
My favorite perfume out of the Zara x Jo Malone Emotions collection
I’ve been trying these perfumes out for a couple of weeks now. My first favorite fragrances were Waterlily Tea Dress, Vetiver Pamplemousse, and Ebony Wood. After trying the fragrances out and smelling them on different occasions one fragrance happened to be my all-time favorite and that’s the Fleur D’Oranger. I got a few compliments on this one and my sister loves this scent. She kept telling me I smelled good each time I put it on.
I love the smell of this perfume. It reminds me of a Tom Ford fragrance (I don’t know which one because I only remember the Tom Ford scent from trying it out in the store).
Fleur D’Oranger also reminds me of a clean cotton scent, It’s hard for me to describe because I have zero fragrance knowledge. It’s a light scent and the downside to this is that you can easily overspray. I personally don’t like that overly sprayed smell.
The only thing I know right now is that I am going to get a full-size bottle of this one (maybe two, haha). I’m also going to get full sizes of the other three fragrances that I first fell in love with.
Personal Review
The more I smell the perfumes the more I fall in love with the light essential oil scent that the majority of these fragrances have. Ebony Wood is a heavy one out of the full collection and I love it as well. I think my love for this collection is because they remind me of my grandma.
I also notice the scent of jasmine in some of these fragrances, which is weird because the fragrances don’t contain any notes of jasmine in the description.
The longevity isn’t long (2-3-hours) and a little longer on clothes, except for Ebony Wood, it stays on a lot longer. The projection is there at least at the moment when you spray them on. These scents don’t develop any further. I mean the scent stays the same as when you spray it on and in the dry down as well.
This collection is a great way to try out Jo Malone’s fragrances for an affordable price. This is your chance to enjoy these scents made from The Perfume Icon herself. I mean even if you don’t want to buy a full bottle you can get the sample bundle, just like I did. Test which one of the scents you like the most, and maybe you can get a full bottle of that one.
The bottles have a minimal, clear, black and white design that gives the collection a chic look. This makes me think of the saying less is more, but when it comes to this collection you definitely get more for less.
